Home Remedies to Help Ease Joint Pain in Kids
For mild joint aches in a child who is otherwise well, these home steps are generally safe:
Rest the sore joint and reduce hard activity for a day or two. Avoid sports, jumping, running, or anything that makes the pain worse. After a short rest, gentle movement is usually better than keeping the joint completely still for many days.
Use ice for a recent injury, swelling, or warmth. Put a cold pack wrapped in a thin cloth on the sore joint for 10–20 minutes at a time. Elevating the joint on a pillow can also help swelling.
Use warmth for achy, muscle-like pain or stiffness when there is no swelling, redness, or heat in the joint. A warm bath, warm compress, or low-setting heating pad can help. Remove heating pads before the child falls asleep. Gentle massage and light stretching can also help with common leg aches.
Try gentle stretching, massage, and comfort measures. Do not force stretching if it hurts. For younger kids, cuddling, distraction, and calm bedtime routines can help.
